JAKE PAUL's rematch with Tyron Woodley was a 'gangster move', but a heroic'mistake.
That's the claim of ex-UFC star Chael Sonnen after YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul called in Woodley to replace Tommy Fury on December 18.
Tyson Fury's undefeated half-brother Tommy would've been a big step up for Paul, but he pulled out with a reported rib injury.
Woodley, a former UFC welterweight champion, is now seeking revenge at his American opponent at the Amalie Arena, Tampa Bay, Florida.
Sonnen thinks Paul is taking a "very big risk" by facing again the only victim who has had professional boxing experience.
Paul, 24 was victorious in their first fight via a split decision four years ago.
Sonnen answered the question on The MMA Hour if Paul was making a mistake. This mistake is why I respect it so much.
"This is a true fighter move... He has no gain here.
"This is a big risk for Jake... and if Tyron beats Jake, you can bet your a**e that they'll go to part three which would be even more significant."
Sonnen, a promoter of MMA who was also known as The American Gangster (Octagon) added that "Jake Paul doesn't need this fight."
"But, there are 20 other people on that card whose Christmases will be ruined and whose holidays will be destroyed if they don’t get out there and compete.
"Jake Paul observed the golden rule in show business, which was that the show must go on.
"That's a great gangster move. He deserves credit. It is something I respect.
"I believe he is up against it. He is, I believe.
"And I believe that Tyron has gone straight to bed thinking about Jake Paul every night, praying that this opportunity will come.
"I believe that Tyron is in a very good place."
