Paul Ignored Pleas to Pull Out of Fight
Jake Paul went ahead with his fight against Tommy Fury despite having what he described as the "worst" training camp of his life. Despite pleas to withdraw, Paul suffered a split-decision loss in the grudge match held in Saudi Arabia. He later gave a number of excuses for his defeat.
Arm Injury and Bizarre Wet Dream
Paul attributed his loss to a number of factors, including a strange wet dream he had the night before the bout and an arm injury. However, his former trainer, Danny Smith, revealed that Paul was seriously ill during the build-up to the fight but refused to withdraw.
COVID and Shoulder Injury
Smith disclosed on the Full Disclosure podcast that Paul had contracted COVID and had only sparred a few times before the fight. Additionally, two weeks before the match, Paul injured his shoulder, further hampering his training. Smith described it as the worst camp they had ever had.
Refusing to Risk Another Cancellation
Despite his illness and injury, Paul refused to back out of the fight against Fury. Smith explained that Paul was concerned Fury might not agree to reschedule the bout if he withdrew. Fury had previously pulled out of the fight twice due to a rib injury and a US visa issue.

Health Concerns and Emotional Turmoil
Smith revealed that Paul was experiencing breathing issues and had to undergo an EKG to check for signs of heart disease. Paul's emotional state was also affected by a recent breakup with his influencer ex-girlfriend, Julia Rose. Smith acknowledged that Paul's emotional distress had a negative impact on his training and performance.
New Girlfriend and Comeback Victory
Following his defeat to Fury, Paul bounced back with a victory over ex-UFC star Nate Diaz. He also went public with his new girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, a Dutch speedskater. Paul is set to return to the ring on December 15 against professional boxer Andre August.
Split from Trainer and New Partnership
After his loss to Fury, Paul ended his partnership with Danny Smith and joined forces with Theo Chambers from the renowned Kronk gym in Detroit.
