JOE JOYCE would like to have a sweltering September 24 showdown against Dillian Whyte, while his world title shot remains on ice.
Christian Hammer, a tough German opponent, was defeated in the fourth round by Christian Hammer on Saturday. This cemented his status as WBO's No1 or WBC's #2 contender.
Joyce, a British heavyweight, has summoned Dillian Whyte to a domestic dust-up in September
The 36-year old knows that Tyson Fury, WBC king, is waiting for him to meet him in the August 20 Anthony Joshua-vs Oleksandr Uzyk rematch. He will be competing for the WBA, IBF, and WBO crowns.
His belt dreams are now on hold until 2023. However, he has chosen Brit Whyte, his former sparring partner, as his ideal barnburner.
Joyce declared that Hammer was defeated with body shots at Wembley arena. Joyce also said that Dillian would make a great fight and that he could get it in September.
"I can recall sparring him years ago, when I was still training in Earlsfield's old amateur. He always threw powerful shots so it would have been exciting.
"I want to become a heavyweight champion in the world, I feel I have the power and chin to defeat any of these top men.
"But I must wait a bit longer for rematches and undisputed to be decided. Then Dillian would make a great fight for fans."
Although Whyte was pushed out of contention for the world title in April by Gyspy King, Whyte is still a promotional and broadcast-free agent and can negotiate with BT Sport or Frank Warren-backed Joyce.
The fine art graduate from university knows that he must improve his defense if he wants to risk his granite chin against 34-year-old Body Snatcher.
He smiled and said, "I don’t mind getting him some," He grinned.
"I'm a strong guy, but there is always room to improve."
"I'm always learning and growing, I won't ever think that I'm finished."
"But taking a few shots there and there also makes the experience more exciting for fans."
