Skateboarding Towards Victory

Joe Joyce is determined to come out on top as he gears up for his rematch with Zhilei Zhang tonight. In his quest for victory, the heavyweight fighter has resorted to a rather peculiar tactic – using an electric skateboard.

A New Strategy

Following his defeat to Zhang in April, which marked his first professional loss, Joyce sought a way to clear his head and move past the heartbreak. Instead of traditional methods like taking a stroll or listening to music, he turned to his one-wheel skateboard.

Escape to Nature

Speaking with the Daily Star, Joyce explained how the skateboard helps him recover from the loss. He said, "I got out in nature on my one wheel skateboard thing, that helped me. Going to see family and friends. Reviewing the footage as well and seeing where I went wrong. It wasn’t that I was thinking, it was a distraction and something to feel good about and enjoy.

Mindful Hobbies

Besides skateboarding, Joyce also enjoys other activities outside of boxing, including swimming, diving, and cycling. The one-wheel skateboard has become his newest addition, providing a way to take his mind off the upcoming fight and find joy in other aspects of life. As he puts it, "It means it's not boxing, boxing, boxing."

Physical Transformation

In addition to the mental change, Joyce has experienced a significant physical transformation ahead of the rematch. Since his previous bout with Zhang, he has gained nearly 2 STONE in weight in hopes of tipping the scales more in his favor. Previously weighing in at 18st 4lbs, Joyce now impressively weighs 20st 1lbs for the Wembley Arena rematch.

Battle of the Bulge

Zhang, too, has added some pounds, weighing in at 20st 7lbs for the highly anticipated fight. In their previous encounter, Zhang displayed complete dominance, leaving Joyce's right eye swollen shut.

Confidence in the Weight

Despite the haunting memories of the defeat in April, Joyce is confident that his new weight will work in his favor this time around. He acknowledges that his weight was too light in the previous fight and believes he has made the necessary corrections in his training and diet to achieve victory. Joyce stated, "I'm in a lot better place, physically, mentally, and also with my focus and drive to win this time. I believe I'll get victory in this fight. I can stop him if I hit him with the right shots."
