Joe Joyce reveals Tyson Fury's potential victory over Anthony Joshua, and reveals that AJ is a 'negative' target for AJ's 'wary shots'

TYSON FURY has been previously back to beat Anthony Joshua if they fought by Joe Joyce.

The Brit reckoned that Fury’s technique, mental strength and experience would be enough to defeat Anthony Joshua – if the pair ever step into the ring.

And the Juggernaut thought AJ’s ‘negative style’ would contribute to his undoing against his fellow Brit.

The heavyweight showdown between Fury and Joshua to unify the division was verbally agreed to take place last year.

However, Oleksandr Usyk threw a spanner in the works by defeating AJ – robbing him of his belts.

Fury had to fight and beat Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight and was then forced into a mandatory fight against Dillian Whyte.

Since that Wembley Stadium mauling, Fury has seen a potential unification fight with Uysk fall apart.

While AJ has returned to the ring and beaten Jermaine Franklin, after which he hinted that he would be open to fighting Fury.

Pundits and fighters are split over who they think would win – Carl Froch, Tony Bellew and Wladimir Klitschko are in Team AJ.

But Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr and George Foreman are backing the Gypsy King.

And Joyce is in the latter camp, believing the unbeaten WBC champ will come out on top.

He told the Evening Standard before Usyk shocked AJ in 2021: “I’m going with Fury because of his performances and the way he’s come back from his lowest point to beat Deontay Wilder for the WBC.

“I think that while Joshua’s picked himself up since losing to Andy Ruiz Jr, he’s kind of been a bit too negative in his style, and been a bit wary of the shots coming back at him.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s a 50-50 fight.

“Joshua has got great strength, hand speed, dedication and motivation, and he’s very competitive.

“With Fury, you know he is mentally very strong, tactically as well.

“He’s unorthodox and hard to hit, he’s fast and he’s a bigger guy with the longer reach. For me, he has the edge.”

Joyce beat Daniel Dubois in November 2020 to land British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles, before knocking out Carlos Takam inside six rounds.

The Juggernaut hasn’t been in the ring since he dismantled Joseph Parker in 11 rounds back in their September slugfest.

But will be on show on Saturday evening as he takes on Zhilei Zhang at the Copper Box in London.
