Joe Joyce has undergone a remarkable body transformation ahead of his highly anticipated rematch against Zhilei Zhang, packing on almost two stone to become the heaviest he has ever been in his career.
Losing to Zhang in April
In their previous showdown in April, the 38-year-old heavyweight fighter lost around a stone and suffered a defeat when Zhang managed to shut his right eye. Determined to seek revenge, Joyce made significant changes to prepare for their rematch.
For the upcoming fight at Wembley Arena, both Joyce and Zhang have put on weight, with Joyce weighing an impressive 20st 1lb and Zhang hitting the scales at 20st 7lb.
Correcting Past Mistakes
Having weighed in at 18st 4lbs for their first clash, Joyce admitted that he felt he was too light and made dietary and training adjustments to address this issue for the rematch. Joyce is now confident that the changes he has made will lead him to victory.

He stated, "I’m in a lot better place physically, mentally, and also with my focus and drive to win this time. I believe I’ll get victory in this fight. I can stop him if I hit him with the right shots."
The Haunting Defeat
Nevertheless, the memory of his defeat still haunts Joyce. Not only did he suffer a cracked cheekbone during the first bout, but he also spent a night in the hospital. Reflecting on the loss, Joyce admitted that it took him a couple of weeks to get over it and that he occasionally thinks about it.
However, he is determined to put the past behind him, stating, "It’s a very different environment when you lose a fight, compared to when you win... I realise now how much I prefer the feeling of winning. It’s better to regroup and go again."
Ready for Redemption
With his newfound physical and mental strength, Joe Joyce is ready to redeem himself in the ring. Armed with extra weight and improved training, he aims to deliver more powerful punches and secure a well-deserved victory.
