Outmatched from the Start
Jordan Thompson's dreams of clinching the IBF 200lbs title came crashing down on Saturday night as he faced off against Jai Opetaia at Wembley Arena. Unfortunately, the fight proved to be a complete mismatch from the outset.
Brutal Blows and Blood
In the first round, Opetaia, 28, unleashed a barrage of power shots that repeatedly struck Thompson's nose, drawing blood and leaving him hurting. The damage only worsened as the rounds progressed, with one particularly punishing blow nearly contorting Thompson's face and sending his blood spurting through the air.
A Brave but Outgunned Opponent
Despite his determination, Thompson was clearly outmatched. He was dropped in the third round and badly rocked before the end of the stanza. Although the fight should've been stopped between rounds, Thompson's corner decided to send him back out there.
Opetaia Dominates for First Title Defense
Jai Opetaia wasted no time in capitalizing on the opportunity to secure his 18th career stoppage. With a fired-up spirit, Opetaia landed a powerful straight left and a vicious right hook that sent Thompson crashing to the canvas. After the fight, Opetaia confidently declared, "I stand here in this ring and I'm born for this s**t."

Eddie Hearn Praises Both Fighters
Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn took to Instagram to commend the performances of both men. He believed that Opetaia had the potential to capture every belt in the division while acknowledging Thompson's courage for taking the risk. Hearn concluded his post by teasing Thompson's future in the heavyweight division.
