War of Words
Leading up to the rematch, both fighters had some strong words for each other. In response to Eubank Jr's possible retirement, Smith said, "Whether Chris carries on after this it’s down to him and his team. He probably does carry on as he said he’d stop if he lost the first one but they put a rematch clause in for a reason. I can’t see him retiring, he’ll make some sort of excuse again." Eubank Jr reflected on his mindset during the first fight, admitting, "I think I got complacent. I was very comfortable in that ring, probably more so than I usually am in fights in general. I was very comfortable, I was very relaxed, he wasn’t catching me with shots, in the third round I hit him with some great combinations, and I was just fully in control. I guess I went back to the corner after the third round and I was like ‘this is in the bag, I’ve got this.'"
