MIKE TYSON accepted an invitation from Malawi to be their official cannabis ambassador.
55-year-old former world heavyweight champion has been selling cannabis products through his Tyson Holistic brand since 2016.
The American sells many cannabis-related products
After accepting the offer by Agriculture Minister Lobin Lower, he is now set to be the face of the drug.
Low stated that Malawi might not be able to do it on her own because the industry is complicated and requires collaboration.
"I would therefore like you to be appointed, Mr Mike Tyson as Malawi's Cannabis Branch Ambassador."
The United States Cannabis Association facilitates the deal and Wezi Ngalamila (head of the Malawi branch) confirmed to BBC that Tyson has accepted the offer.
Malawi hopes the move will bring in potential buyers and investors.
Tyson 2.0 was recently announced.
This new venture, Iron Mike's first, is expected to offer a greater range of products, including concentrates, edibles and beverages.
The legalization of cannabis was made in Malawi last year, but it is still illegal to use recreationally.
The Centre for Public Accountability, a Malawian civil rights group, has criticised the country for inviting Tyson to be their cannabis ambassador.
He was convicted in Indiana of rape in 1992 and released three years later.
Kondwani Mungthali, acting director of Centre for Public Accountability, stated that the CPA was unable to understand why Malawi would want a convicted rapper as its brand ambassador. This is especially true when the government's efforts to reduce violence against women are on the agenda.
Tyson, 54 years old, is estimated to make around PS500,000 per month through his cannabis business, which sells premium marijuana strains, edibles, and extracts.
"Iron Mike" is also building a resort on 418 acres that focuses on marijuana. He hopes it will host a music festival comparable to Coachella and the longest lazy river in the world.
A Tyson University will also be located on the site, which will offer tips and tricks for cannabis cultivation to wannabe farmers.
SunSport reported last month that the ex-boxer stated to SunSport that he would like to see marijuana legalized in the UK.
He stated that he would tell you that once the UK legalizes marijuana, there will be no need to worry about prescription drugs driving people insane and making them suicide. It will end immediately.
"Absolutely half of it will be knocked off once the people of Great Britain have a chance to take part in what we're doing right now; wonder medicine."
