BOXING legend Mike Tyson reveals that the death of his mother was 'one the greatest things that has ever happened'.
Lorna Tyson died from cancer in 1982, just three years after her son became a professional fighter boxer.
Mike Tyson claims that his mom's death actually had a strangely positive effect on
Tyson is open about his Brooklyn upbringing, New York. He had to fight for survival.
He also revealed that he was able to live on the streets after losing his mother so young.
According to ShayShay Club, the 55-year old said that "my mother's death was one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me."
"Because my mom would have 'babied me.
"There is no way that I would ever get into a street fight." There's no way I could ever learn to stand for myself.
Lorna's death at 16 years old left Iron Mike just 16 years old.
Tyson was raised in Brownsville, an area rife in crime. This gave him a difficult start to his life, which made him a good boxer.
He didn't know Purcell Tyson, his biological father, and Jimmy Kirkpatrick, his stepdad, had walked out on him soon after he was born.
Tyson later said about Kirkpatrick, "My father was just an ordinary street guy caught up on the street world."
He was a troubled teen who became involved with local gangs, and got himself in trouble.
Other kids taunted him for his high-pitched voice, lisp, which led to many fights.
Surprisingly, Tyson was arrested 38 times before turning 13 and sent to Tryson school for boys.
Tyson, a former unified heavyweight champion, said that he never saw his mother happy or proud of him for doing something.
"She knew me only as a wild child running around the streets and returning home with new clothes she didn't buy.
I never had the chance to speak to her or learn about her. It has no professional effect, but it is crushing emotionally and personally.
In November 2020, Tyson returned to boxing with a spectacular performance. He won a point draw against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition.
The cannabis-loving fighter insisted he would fight on - but SunSport has exclusively revealed has officially walked away from a money-spinning fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Paul, 25, was involved in negotiations about an exhibition fight in Las Vegas.
