Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has revealed his coaching role in Francis Ngannou's camp for the upcoming Tyson Fury fight. While he insists that he is not a trainer, Tyson has been working closely with Ngannou to prepare him for his boxing debut in Saudi Arabia next Saturday.
Tyson: "I'm Not a Trainer, I'm a Coach"
Speaking to GQ, Tyson clarified his position, stating, "I'm not a trainer. I'm a coach. A trainer can be bought by anybody...I'm loyal to my guy." He emphasized his emotional investment in Ngannou's fights, saying, "When he gets beat up, I feel the punches. When he's knocking out a motherf***r, I feel the victory applause."
Fury Disappointed by Tyson's Involvement
Tyson Fury, who was named after boxing's youngest-ever heavyweight champion, expressed his disappointment with Tyson's role in Ngannou's camp. He told Sky Sports, "I think that it's sad...he should be in my corner, not the opposing corner." However, he acknowledged the business aspect of the situation, saying, "I understand that it's strictly business."
Tyson Responds: "This is Business"
In response to Fury's comments, Tyson explained, "This is business, and he understands." While the two legends may be on opposing sides for this fight, they both recognize the importance of the sport and the competitive nature of the boxing world.
