BOXER Miriam Gutierrez was barely recognizable after she received 236 punches in her loss to Amanda Serrano.
The Spaniard was considered a heavy underdog going into the fight with Serrano, the seven-weight world champion.
Gutierrez wanted to cause a major upset against Serrano
The fight was as expected with Serrano winning the entire fight before securing a unanimous decision of 99-91, 99-60, and 100-90.
The Puerto Rican star landed 237 punches during the ten-minute round. Gutierrez ate 37 punches during the first round.
After the contest, she was photographed with Serrano in shockingly enlarged eyes.
Serrano expressed her respect for Gutierrez, praising the Madrid-born boxer for his toughness.
She stated, "I want to thank Miriam Gutierrez, my dance partner." She didn't want to lie down.
"I don’t care about who is in front me, but I’m not coming to play!" I was just informed by her that she had weighed 160 pounds today. My girl Nisa Rodriguez was at 165lbs.
"She is a tough fighter. However, she did admit that she was in better condition this time around than she was when she fought Katie Taylor. This was due to a year of rest.
"She just won a fight last month. Miriam Gutierrez was the best fighter I've ever seen, and I beat her.
"This is not a bitter or sad loss. It's a dignified loss. This war was from the beginning until the end. It was an honor.
"I wanted to become a complete fighter. If it happened, the knockout was there. But I wanted to make sure she beat me.
"The strategy was just to go out there and beat her every round, and then dominate her. Show that I am an all-round fighter by boxing.
"That I could do anything I wanted. She can have a brawl. I can box with them. Head shots and body shots.
Paul's Most Valuable Promotions is currently managing Serrano. They hope to get a thrilling clash with Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, in early 2022.
Taylor beat Gutierrez unanimously last year, and has since won three more in 2021. The latest was against Firuza Sharipova this month.
Taylor and Serrano were set to meet in 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic halted negotiations.
Eddie Hearn, Taylor's promoter, is optimistic that a deal can be struck to bring the two legendary women together in the ring in 'the greatest fight in women’s boxing history.
He spoke out about the fight to The Mirror last month, saying: "We've been talking with Most Valuable Promotions and want it here in New York."
"Katie & Serrano fights in December, so I'm looking at the end of April or something similar for that fight.
Free Bets: Get more than PS2,000 in NEW CUSTOMER DEALS"Jake [Paul] still drives the operation. Jake seems to have taken an interest in Amanda Serrano. He's given her a great platform, and raised her profile significantly.
"And he wants the man to make the biggest fight in women's boxing."
"It's partly because Amanda likes him and partly because it's an ego trip to get Amanda a big payday, fight her the hardest and say 'I did this'."
