Oleksandr Usyk is still waiting to hear from the Klitschko brothers, 'even once' before he supports Anthony Joshua fight

OLEKSANDRUSYK'S manager revealed that the Klitschko siblings have not reached out to him 'even once,' in advance of his heavyweight matchup with Anthony Joshua.

The 34-year-old Usyk will attempt to follow the example of his countrymen Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir by defeating Anthony Joshua to become a first time world heavyweight champion.

Usyk beat Derek Chisora, a British heavyweight, in his last fight at the SSE Wembley Arena. This was back in October 2020.

The Ukrainian will take on the 31-year-old two-time champion of the unified heavyweight world, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Saturday 25 September, for the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.

The Klitschko brothers won and successfully defended all four major heavyweight world titles, until Vitali retired as a champion in 2013. Wladimir was defeated by Tyson Fury in 2015.

They are some of the most successful boxing champions ever and their support could have been a big advantage for Usyk against Joshua in their highly-anticipated title fight.

Joshua beat Wladimir by TKO in their title fight in Wembley Stadium, 2017. He would have been able to offer Usyk some helpful tips if he had reached him as many believed he would.

Sergey Lapin, Usyk’s manager, stated to My Betting Sites that the silence of the Klitschko brothers will not affect Usyk’s preparation.

Lapin stated that Oleksandr worked hard in training and will show Joshua that he is the best. Thanks to Anatoly Lomachenko, his game has been elevated to the next level.

"We haven't even seen the Klitschko brothers (our fellow Ukrainians) in our training camp once, regarding the advice they gave us.

"Oleksandr is the author of his own story. He has been writing it since the day he started going to the gym as a child. He doesn't need anyone else."

Lapin is positive that Joshua will beat him, despite Watford's world champion status being the favourite.

"More Than Two Years have passed since Oleksandr's move to heavyweight. Today, he is in a perfect physical and mental state to face Anthony Joshua.

"In this world, everyone needs to prove themselves. This is what Usyk does when people doubt him.

His team and his loved ones believe in him winning because he has the best boxing techniques and because he uses all his legs which makes him tough to tackle.

"AJ is a great fighter, he has walked a tough path in his career. We wish him well in preparation and we are looking forward to seeing him in the ring.

MUTUAL RESPECT

Joshua is well-known for his good relationship with Klitschko. The pair have shown great mutual respect since their fight in 2015.

He said that Wladimir Klitschko was the most difficult puncher he had ever faced, even though Ruiz Jr. won by TKO. He stated, "This guy is a beast, and he's beast."

Klitschko posted the following message on Twitter after his defeat: "Really enjoyed fighting, I hope that you did too. We are grateful for your incredible support. It is something I can feel. Respect and congratulations to @anthonyfjoshua

Usyk won 13 of his 18 professional knockout fights and is undefeated. Joshua has won 22 of his 25 knockout fights but was defeated by Andy Ruiz Jr. in an unexpected defeat in 2019.

Frank Warren, Tyson Fury's promoter, recently said that Usyk would win if it went to 12 rounds. He stated: "Anthony Joshua should be the favourite for this fight. He is the bigger man, much larger, and he has a greater puncher.

"Having said all that, if Joshua doesn't get rid off him after five to six rounds, then the fight will go to the end. If that goes twelve rounds, I'd like Usyk the winner because he'll have to outbox Joshua to win the decision."
