OSCAR DE LA HOYA believes a rematch against Floyd Mayweather will blow out his rival's recent fights.
Mayweather, 44 years old, will face Money Kicks, a Dubai-rich kid, in a lucrative exhibition bout later in the month.
Oscar De La Hoya, boxing legend, is aiming for a return to
the ring
After a fight of Covid that spoiled a clash against Vitor Belfort, De La Hoya is making plans to make his own return to the ring in 2015.
The Golden Boy is now aiming for a rematch with Mayweather, which he believes would be more important than Money's recent clashes against Conor McGregor or YouTuber Logan Paul.
DAZN was told by Mayweather: "Obviously, he (Mayweather) is all about the money.
"This would be his biggest fight. It would be more than McGregor fighting him.
It would be more than him fighting Logan Paul, or any other fighter he might face next. People want to see fights.
People want to see champions versus champions, legend versus legend. This is what we do. This is what we have done practically our entire lives.
"People want to see real fights.
De La Hoya (48) believes that a staggering FIVE BILLION boxing enthusiasts would be willing to part with their money in order to renew his rivalry against Mayweather, who defeated him via split decision 15-years ago.
He said, "They [boxing enthusiasts] want to see legends in the rings."
"Fighters such as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are legends. They put their lives on the line, and were there for many years fighting for world titles.
"I believe that Floyd Mayweather would win a huge fight. Floyd Mayweather would be attracted by that alone.
"I believe a fight between Floyd and me can easily generate five millions homes.
"With all of the technology, there are so many things you can incorporate in terms publicizing the event and making it even bigger.
"You now have the metaworlds, the NFT’s. That whole social media platform is yours. It can be quite large."
De La Hoya still feels the effects of his Covid bout, which left him hospitalized.
He stated that COVID got the best of him.
"I train. I take care of my body. I do all the right thing.
"Feeling great. I was probably 80% when COVID hit. I was prepared. I was quick. I was strong.
"My timing was nearly perfect. Then COVID struck, and everything was thrown off-track.
"I feel a little pressure on my chest."
After running for a few miles, it is difficult to breathe.
"I don’t believe I’m in a place right now to say if or not I want to fight again because I don’t feel it right at the moment.
"Who knows, maybe it will change in the next few months. Right now, it's not something I feel. I am not getting any older."
