After defending his title, Valdez looked bruised and battered.

However, the judges didn't tell the whole story. The punch stats of the fight were in favour of the challenger.

ESPN reports that Conceicao beat Valdez, the WBC champion, by 141 shots to an impressive 83.

The Brazilian entered the fight with a record 16-0 and he also threw 186 punches over the 12 rounds.

Valdez was able to fight despite testing positive for phentermine last week. However, Valdez still claimed that his opponent was 'running' after the fight.

He stated, "I've been through enough in this week's fight, man." When someone tries to manage the entire fight, it makes things more complicated.

"If he wishes to run? Running like this is a sure way to lose a fight.

The WBC champion was able to raise his hand despite feeling that he had lost.

"We all want Jamel Herring and Shakur Stevenson to win. Let's do it."

After his positive drug test, Valdez was under extreme scrutiny.

In a recent interview with ESPN, however, he denied any wrongdoing. He even suggested that the findings could have been due to his drinking of herbal tea.

He said, "We have literally never done anything else as far as taking other supplement."

"You know, very basic supplements -- vitamin C and vitamin B12, as well as all the normal vitamins that everyone should take.

"The only difference between me and you is that I have taken herbal tea. This is the reason I think it could be. However, I am still not 100% sure how it got into my body.

"I stopped drinking coffee and started drinking more herbal teas.

"And I just tried different teas was all that I did in this training camp. That's why I believe that it's possible."

A 30-year-old Mexican suggested that his vitamins might have been 'contaminated'.

Valdez described the situation to be 'embarrassing' and 'humiliating', and said he was left feeling 'hurt'.

He insists that he is telling the truth and has always been proud to be a clean fighter.
