'Hang Your Heads in Shame'
Barry McGuigan and Sharron Davies have expressed outrage at Olympic chiefs after a female boxer, Angela Carini, was brutally attacked by a rival who had previously failed a gender test.
Failed Gender Test Boxer Creates Controversy
Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who pummeled Carini, had been disqualified from the Women’s World Championships and accused of "pretending to be a woman" in the past. Despite this, Khelif was allowed to compete at the Paris 2024 Games.
Calls for Accountability and Change
McGuigan and Davies criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for negligence and failing to ensure the safety of female boxers. The IOC, however, defended its decision, stating that all athletes at the Paris boxing tournament adhere to eligibility regulations based on their passport information.
