Following the injury, Colon was placed in a coma for 221 days and was diagnosed with a 1.5cm left-sided subdural hematoma on his brain. He underwent a complex surgery to reduce brain swelling and clear the hematoma.

Almost eight years later, the Puerto Rican boxer still requires constant support and care from his mother, Nieves, as specialists oversee his ongoing recovery.
