GEORGE KAMBOSOS JR will rematch Devin Haney in this year's fight - his promoter Lou DiBella hopes for less distractions.

The Australian confirmed that he activated a clause in the contract that guarantees him a fight with Haney.

Devin Haney beat George Kambosos

He was defeated by the American in 12 rounds, and he failed to recreate the performance that earned him the belts.

SunSport spoke with Hall of Famer DiBella: "Honestly, as a fan, I don't believe George fought his fight. I didn't think he fought well."

"I believe there were many distractions in front the fight that shouldn’t have been."

"I believe he can be more focused and can fight better than he did. I don't think it was George Kambosos night.

Devin was the boxer, and I believe Devin would have been almost anyone on that night.

Devin was undisputed because he had an amazing jab and a great strategy. Devin executed it flawlessly.

Kambosos, a 29-year-old, won the title in shock against Teofimo Lopez (24 years old) in New York.

He was instantly a star and was able to win against Haney, 23, at home.

However, the over 40,000 people who attended the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne and the chaotic build-up could have created unwanted distractions.

DiBella stated that "The eye must be on the fight."

The fight is the focus of all members of the team. The fight is only possible if the team works together.

"So when distractions are present - and some are beyond George's control - because you are fighting in your country's home in front of a huge crowd for the first time.

"So there's pressure, but you have to stay focused and I know George wasn't happy, I don’t think anyone was. George lost the weight.

"That was another distraction, and it gives your opponent a little ammunition.

"I believe there are things he could do better next time, and if there is an opportunity for a rematch, it will be better.

Haney boxed brilliantly over the distance to add WBA, IBF, and WBO belts his WBC version to his WBC version to become the lightweight king.

However, the contract Kambosos signed initially gives Kambosos the opportunity to win back the victory at home.

Manny Pacquiao's former sparring partner now has the option to rematch in Melbourne or Sydney, as well as Brisbane.

With a November target, it allows Kambosos to plan a revenge mission against a defeated fighter.

DiBella said, "A loss is an opportunity to reflect and consider what you can do better or differently."

"I hope George will learn from the positive lessons that were learned from the loss.
