Ricky Hatton, 43, will make a sensational comeback to boxing with a comeback in retirement

RICKY HATTON, 43, is poised to make a spectacular return to the ring this year.

After a loss in the ninth round to Vyacheslav Senko in 2012, the Manchester Hitman decided to hang up his gloves but has maintained a good physique.

, The Hitman quit boxing.
He's now ready to put on his gloves and fight with Marco Antonio Barrera, a fellow legend.

The former world champion at two weight is scheduled to face Marco Antonio Barrera in an exhibition fight later this year.

SunSport has learned that talks regarding a shock bout between the 48-year old Mexican and SunSport have advanced to an advanced stage, but that a deal is still being finalised.

Hatton's upcoming return to the ring is just the latest in a long list of legends from yesteryear.

The trend was started by former heavyweight champions Roy Jones Jr and Mike Tyson in November 2020, when they returned to the ring for a lucrative exhibition fight.

Evander Holyfield, an ex-Tyson opponent, made a surprise return to the ring at the age 58. He was defeated by Vitor Belfort, a former UFC light-heavyweight champion.

Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy, has also decided to fight again against Belfort in a comeback bout. This was scheduled before De La Hoya was admitted with Covid.

Hatton, a fan favourite, flirted with the idea of returning to the ring last season and stated: "I am all about these dream fights that we keep hearing about."

"I have children coming up to me and saying, "I've seen your fights on video, but I never got the chance to see you live!"

"And that's why I love these exhibitions.

While you won't see your heroes seriously hurt, it's a chance for them to show their skills and raise some money for charity.

"There are a few choices that come to my mind. "If we're talking domestically, I would still like to see Joe Calzaghe against Carl Froch.

"They were very close to fighting, Joe was coming towards the end, Carl was at the forefront.

"There are always those what-ifs so I think a fight fan would enjoy an exhibition featuring those two.

"If you're looking at heavyweights we saw the talk about Mike Tyson vs Evander Hollyfield.

"Tyson was a master against Roy Jones Jr. and Evander looks amazing every time you meet him on social media.

He's always training, he is always on the pads. But Evander may not have enough ear to go 8-10 rounds.

Hatton's most memorable fight was with Kosta Tszyu, in front of a large crowd at the MEN Arena.

The Australian was forced to abandon his stool in the 11th round by The Hitman, who displayed a spectacular performance to win the IBF and The Ring light-welterweight titles.
