Roman Fury: The Next Boxing Star?

Channel 5: A Familiar Platform

Roman Fury, the latest member of the Fury family to enter the boxing ring, recently made waves on Channel 5. Despite having no amateur background, the cruiserweight fighter impressed with a knockout victory over Bradley Davies. This fight, broadcast on free-to-air TV, allowed Roman Fury to follow in the footsteps of his famous relatives, particularly his cousin Tyson Fury.

Tyson Fury's Channel 5 Success

Superstar Tyson Fury, the current WBC heavyweight world champion, kickstarted his career on Channel 5. When signed to Mick Hennessy, Tyson fought several notable bouts on the platform. In 2011, he pulled off an upset victory against Derek Chisora, capturing the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles. This fight attracted a staggering three million viewers, solidifying Tyson Fury's rising stardom.

The Fury Family on Channel 5

Roman Fury isn't the only family member to have showcased their boxing skills on Channel 5. Tyson's cousin Phil fought on the undercard of Tyson's 2011 win against Chisora. Another cousin, Hughie Fury, also made early waves on the channel under the guidance of Mick Hennessy. Hughie's knockout victory over Sam Sexton in 2018 drew an impressive audience of 2.9 million viewers.

Tommy Fury's Different Path

While his family members found success on Channel 5, Tommy Fury took a different route. The 24-year-old boxer gained mainstream fame in 2019 through his appearance on the reality TV show Love Island. As a professional boxer, Tommy exclusively fought on BT Sports under the promotion of Frank Warren. Notably, he faced YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a pay-per-view fight, which garnered over 800,000 buys. After parting ways with Warren, Tommy defeated Paul's rival KSI in a DAZN PPV bout, reportedly selling 1.3 million buys.

With Roman Fury's recent victory on Channel 5, it seems the family's boxing legacy continues to grow. Whether he can reach the same heights as his cousin Tyson remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the Fury family has left an indelible mark on the sport.
