Ryan Garcia LEAVES Canelo Alvarez’s gym and coach in order to 'build and make it bigger' before he returns to boxing.

RYAN GARCIA is leaving Canelo Alvarez, his mentor, to 'build and make it bigger' in preparation for his return to boxing.

Garcia teamed up in 2018 with Eddy Reynoso, a highly respected coach in Canelo’s US training base in San Diego.

The lightweight prospect, now 23, decided to leave Reynoso in order to join Joe Goosen, a veteran pundit and cornerman.

Henry Garcia, Garcia's father and co-trainer, told BoxingScene that Ryan decided it was time to open his own gym. He's no longer restricted to a set schedule or a specific day.

It's almost like, "Hey, there's a fight up," you know. He wanted to create his own brand and make the company bigger.

"I believe it's time. It's almost like renting an apartment. You get tired of renting, and want your own place. It's almost that.

Ryan didn't want to feel like he was in someone else's shoes. He wanted to believe that his brand could hold up just like Floyd Mayweather Jr. when he decided to leave Top Rank to start his own business.

It's almost the exact same thing. He didn't want the feeling of being restricted to one place, where they have to wait for them to decide to do this or that.

"We don’t want that." "We want our own place. What's wrong?

Garcia has been out since January 2021 when he stopped Luke Campbell (34), with a body shot in round seven.

The talented American has been sidelined by a hand injury, but Canelo, 31, expressed concern about his inability to walk.

Garcia's father revealed that they remain in touch with Alvarez, his entourage, and despite the split.

He stated that he loved Canelo and Eddy as well as the entire team. They are amazing and beautiful people.

"I cannot stress that enough. They are respected and there is no hard feelings.

We thank them for their help and appreciate all they have done. But, I guess that when we know that we need to make changes, it's something we've decided.

"Eddy was a tremendous help to me. We wanted to be with a champion coach so that we could experience it ourselves. My son is better known than me.

Garcia was originally set to fight JoJo, 29-year-old JoJo Diaz in November. Garcia was forced to have surgery on his injured hand.

Since then, he has been able to recover and return to training after signing to fight Emmanuel Tagoe in April 9.

Garcia Sr said: "We're doing good sparring. We aren't slowing down. We won't let that happen. We are ready for April 9.
