BRITISH boxing followed the Royal example and put off all action this weekend in a gesture of respect for the Royal family.

Savannah Marshall from Hartlepool and Claressa Shields from America were set to end a decade-long dispute at the O2.

The Sky Sports show, promoted by Ben Shalom (BOXXER) is the most prominent casualty in this week's boxing calendar.

British Boxing Board of Control announced the decision shortly after 2pm Friday. It stated: "The British Boxing Board of Control have decided to postpone all tournaments this weekend in respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2.

"We join together as a nation to mourn and pay tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. We honour her dedication to this country during her long reign.

The show's brave girls will have lost thousands of pounds in training camps and trimmed down to their ideal weight.

All the stops were made to promote the event. A boxing ring was placed on a bout that toured Thames on Wednesday. There was also media work-outs taking place on deck.

The all-female, ground-breaking card will be held at the North Greenwich arena on October 15.

Shalom, aged 28, stated that this was an historic moment in our history. Our sincere thoughts are with the Royal Family as well as the nation.

"Out of respect, The British Boxing Board of Control decided to postpone Saturday’s show.

"All parties are working on a provisional date for Saturday 15 October at The O2 in order to stage this iconic night of celebration for women’s sport at a more fitting time."

Sky Sports' Head of Boxing Development Adam Smith said, "All of our thoughts and prayers at Sky Sports Boxing are with The Royal Family."

"We all looked forward to this historic sporting spectacle this weekend. It is right to respectfully reschedule it for October 15th."
