SPOTY 2021 Winner: Which of the six nominees Fury. Raducanu. Sterling. Daley. Peaty.

Emma Raducanu, a TENNIS star, is the favourite of the bookies to win the BBC Sports Personality of the year award.

However, not everyone is on the same page.

Tyson Fury, boxing's icon, doesn't want to be nominated.

There was outrage at the fact that Sir Lewis Hamilton was not included on the shortlist.

SunSport journalists offer their opinions on who should win out of the BBC's shortlist, which includes Sarah Storey (Tim Daley), Rahem Sterling, Adam Peaty and Emma Raducanu, as well as Tyson Fury and Raheem Sterling.

For me, there is only one winner. Emma Raducanu was Wimbledon's top player. I thought that I might be able to see one.

She would win the Grand Slam in just a few months, which was something I never imagined. Flushing Meadows was a magnificent victory.

She will now be responsible for carrying British tennis for a decade.

However, there is something I like about her that makes it seem she can handle it.

Even if she can't, no one will ever be capable of taking her New York achievement away.

LISTEN! We all know Emma Raducanu has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the year award.

After a shortlist, which did not include Sir Lewis Hamilton, Britain's greatest sportsman, is the Beeb now actively trying to sink its flagship?

The BBC's shrinking sports portfolio means that we can continue to talk about SPOTY until the cows are home.

We can debate whether or not the term "personality" should be used, but personality is rarely a factor.

It can be argued that the programme is watched more by your Nanna than by genuine sports fans. Or that it was always a messy apples-and oranges comparison business.

Yes, it seems that no one is able to do anything right anymore.

The idea of crowning the nation’s sportsperson of year is still a worthy one.

TYSON FURY

What better way to end the BBC's poxy SPTY award than to award it to someone who threatened to sue Beeb for nominating him?

Tyson Fury, WBC heavyweight champion, is now at war with Auntie. Gary Lineker had him up on stage at 2015's version. He doesn't want to use his enormous global appeal to publicize the corporation.

Let's hope the boxing star runs off with the voting and leaves his red carpet invitation unattended, leaving the poor sap to accept the award on his own.

It was amazing to see Emma Raducanu win the US Open in September, both as a qualifier and on her first attempt at it.

It was, perhaps, the most remarkable British sports story of 21st century.

I would be shocked if she didn't win Sunday's BBC SPOTY Award. She is my choice for the best winner.

Although I was surprised that Jason Kenny and Laura Kenny were not included in the final list, I expect Adam Peaty and Tom Daley, Team GB gold medallists, to get a lot of support from the public.

TOM DALEY

A lasting sporting hero and an admirable person, she overcame deep personal grief to keep her presence in a discipline that requires immense mental and physical strength, balance and power, as well as co-ordination and sheer courage.

He smiles even though he has been standing in front of the entire world as a budgie smuggler for nearly 30 years.

As much as Tyson Fury would be a great winner, I can't help but love Emma Raducanu.

Other candidates were responsible for some of most memorable sporting moments of the year...she produced one that will be remembered forever.

It is a huge feat for a British female to win Grand Slam tournament. A qualifier can do it without dropping a set.

Tom Daley deserves to be commended for winning the gold after many years of hard work, while Adam Peaty is the champion in his sport.

Raducanu must be nominated due to the size and nature of the win.

Raducanu was more than just the sports story, he was the greatest ever.

We thought she was another Brit trier who had been under pressure in Wimbledon's fourth round last June.

She went from qualifying to winning the US Open trophy in just a few short months.

We also had one of the greatest women's grand finals, when she beat Leylah Fernandez (6-4, 6-3).

It is amazing to think that she was still hitting the ball against her house wall 12 months ago.

Her family was working-class and she had a great back story.

She was the only child of a Romanian father, and a Chinese mother. Both of them made sure that she excelled academically as much as she did in sports.

Addressing her supporters from around the globe, she spoke fluently in mandarin and then in Romanian post-US Open.

We were amazed at her perfect swing and began to wonder what she could do.

The best part is that the 19-year old, who still mixes with her childhood friends, comes across as down to earth in every interview.

It's not easy in the tennis world.

Don't forget about Sports Personality for the Year. Instead, consider Sports Personality for the Decade.

Emma's actions were unique and will not be repeated in our lifetimes. She should be commended for this.

As a qualifier, it was possible to end a 44-year-old wait for a British women’s Grand Slam singles champion. This is not only what tennis fans dream of, but also in sport.

Raducanu was only 18 years old at the time. She had a personality, media presence, and personality that far exceeded those years.

There is nothing else that comes close.
