"You mentioned Amir Khan's fight, but he's only good at getting knocked out that child; he should retire now.

He replied, "You can't speak about people like this."

Froch replied unmoved, "I think that he knows that he's retiring." Kell Brook is a great fighter."

Eddie Hearn, Benn's promoter, said that Khan would be his next opponent. Brook should be his next fight.

He said, "It won’t be Amir Khan next. He won’t be around until after the year ends."

"I'm talking Mikey Garcia and Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman. Adrien Broner, David Avanesyan. We want a big fight.

Kell Brook was the only name I didn’t mention. This fight is the perfect one to determine the best welterweight fighter in Britain. I believe that this man is the right choice.

Chris van Heerden was beaten by Benn in Manchester's second round on Saturday night

"If Kell Brook wishes to cash out we tried to give it to him, he requested PS10million... That tells me that he doesn't want fight, but we'll watch what happens.

"But this [Benn] will be the future. This isn’t about a cash-out. This isn’t about one last roll. This is a young man with four, five or six years of experience at the elite end.
