Tyson Fury and his love for "American Pie:" A closer look

Tyson Fury's Musical Side

Tyson Fury, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, is not just a force to be reckoned with in the boxing ring. He also has a hidden talent for singing. One song that he particularly enjoys belting out is "American Pie."

Why "American Pie"?

According to NME, Tyson Fury resonates with the verses of "American Pie" because they perfectly articulate his incredible comeback story. In 2016, Fury faced an anti-doping case and vacated his heavyweight titles, admitting that he had contemplated ending his own life. However, he made an astonishing return to the sport, becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion.

The First Performance

Tyson Fury first sang "American Pie" at a press conference leading up to his initial fight against Deontay Wilder. After a controversial draw in that match, Fury celebrated his performance by singing the song again at the post-fight press conference.

Collaboration with Dom McLean

In April 2022, ahead of defending his title against Dillian White, Tyson Fury teamed up with legendary singer-songwriter Dom McLean to record a version of "American Pie." The duet, which coincided with the song's 50th anniversary, was aired live on BT Sport before Fury's successful title defense.

Other Songs in Fury's Repertoire

While "American Pie" may be his go-to song, Tyson Fury has showcased his vocal talents with other popular tunes. One notable song is Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," which Fury even released as a charity single to support mental health causes. He has also sung Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger," and even taunted Anthony Joshua with an X-rated song in 2021.

However, it's important to note that Fury has faced controversy for using offensive language while singing along to a Notorious B.I.G. song at his birthday party in 2020.

Despite the ups and downs, Tyson Fury continues to captivate both the boxing and music worlds with his unique talents and larger-than-life personality.
