Tyson Fury has been given a deadline to confirm his retirement via the WBC, or else he will be STRIPPED from title belt

WBC has given TYSON FURY a deadline to either confirm his retirement or lose his championship belt.

Fury announced his intention to quit boxing in April, after he defeated Dillian Whyte at Wembley.

He is still linked to a fight against Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Uzyk, who will rematch in Saudi Arabia this Saturday.

Fury, 34, claimed that he would be facing Derek Chisora (38), in a unlikely trio bout, despite his previous wins in 2011 and 2014.

Fury made it clear that he was retiring and even removed his Ring Magazine belt two days later.

He has not yet done the same with his WBC title, but he still has time to inform the governing body by August 26.

Izquierdazo was told by Mauricio Sulaiman, president of WBC: "We had a discussion with his promoter, and we gave him ten more days (until August 26th), so that they can send us a confirmation in writing of their final decision.

"That will allow us to deal with the problem with the belt. We will wait to see what happens on August 26th.

"This is the deadline for us to receive a formal confirmation that they have made their final decision.

"We don't rush. He's been a hero both inside and outside the ring."

Sulaiman said: "If he confirms that he is retiring, we will celebrate Tyson Fury's birthday.

"He decided to give up boxing, even though he was at the top of his career."

He has a wonderful family and is enjoying life. But he still has much to give outside the ring.

Joshua, 32, will rematch Usyk (35), on Saturday in Saudi Arabia after his September loss.

Frank Warren and Bob Arum, Fury's promoters, have both stated that their man will wait for the winner before returning.

Warren told talkSPORT recently that if Warren wants to do that, it's his right.

"You know, he was looking forward to fighting last Wednesday, he was actually speaking about fighting but that is how he feels right now.

"If that's what he feels, then that's what it is. We all have to support his efforts."

"I spoke with him several times last week, and he said that he's weighing exactly the same as he was for his last fight against DillianWhyte - that's because he's working so hard."

Warren said that ahead of AJ's rematch against Usyk Warren stated: "Whoever wins this fight, everyone will want him to fight Tyson."

Tyson will do it if he wants. He won't if he doesn’t.
