Tyson Fury ignores the SPOTY Awards as he posts snaps from New York completely blanking ceremony, despite being shortlisted

TYSON FURY displayed his disdain for the BBC's Sports Personality of the year award by IGNORING the whole ceremony.

After defeating Deontay Wilder in October, the Gypsy King (33 years old) was shortlisted for this award.

Fury was nominated three times for the award without ever winning

He reacted furiously to being nominated for SPOTY, and threatened to sue BBC for his inclusion in the six-person shortlist.

It was therefore not surprising that he didn't show up at the ceremony. Emma Raducanu, winner, also missed it.

Instead, the boxer posted some photos on Instagram from a trip he took to New York City during the BBC ceremony.

The caption he used was: "Had a great work trip to New York City with Paris Fury and James Ward, Brendan Lyondsen, SugarHill Steward... Christmas special." #worksdo2021"

After the Las Vegas event Fury put on to impress fans, Fury believes that he is the true sports personality. He twice hit the canvas before returning to beat Wilder.

According to him, "It (SPOTY), means nothing to me. I don't want or need it."

"In fact they will hear from me if they put me on the mailing list. It should be given to someone who really needs it. I don't.

"And anyway, we all know who the sports celebrity of the year is - it's me.

"I am the sports personality. Who can do what I do? Go through a Las Vegas war, entertain the fans, then sing to the crowd.

Fury was nominated again for the award this year, but he failed to win.

Raducanu won popular vote after winning US Open qualifier. Olympic champions Tom Daly, Adam Peaty and Adam Peaty were second and third, respectively.
