Fury's Stunning Victory

Back in 2015, Tyson Fury shocked the world by defeating Wladimir Klitschko and claiming the unified world titles in the heavyweight division. It was a moment that dethroned the long-standing ruler of the division.

The Believed Earnings

The fight was broadcast worldwide on pay-per-view, leading many to believe that Fury earned a significant amount. It was widely believed that the Gypsy King made £4 million overall from the bout.

The Shocking Truth

However, Fury has recently spoken out to reveal the shockingly low fight purse he actually received. According to him, he only made $600,000 (£490,000) for the historic fight against Klitschko.

Fury's Defense

Despite the low figure, Fury defended the purse and compared it to the sum he made against Klitschko. He believes that earning $600,000 for a heavyweight championship fight is not that low, considering the challenges and achievements that come with it.

Fury stated, "To make $600k for a fight for the heavyweight championship is about what I got paid to fight Klitschko. It's not that low, I think to win the heavyweight championship and go on and defend it you've got to take on some big names and create a name and fan following."

He further added, "Six-hundred thousand dollars is his biggest purse and $600,000 is a hell of a lot of money. But not for the heavyweight champion of the world, it's not that much."

Comparing to Other Sports

Fury also highlighted that in other combat sports, such as the UFC, fighters can earn significantly more after winning a championship. He pointed out that after winning the UFC heavyweight championship, fighters can expect to make a whole lot more than $600,000 when they transition to boxing and face top-ten heavyweights.

The Payday Comparison

As Fury prepares for his upcoming crossover clash against ex-UFC star Francis Ngannou, it's worth noting the difference in their paydays. Ngannou made $600,000 for his final UFC fight, but Fury is set to make £65 million, his highest-ever payday. This will surpass the £26 million he earned for his 2022 knockout victory over Dillian Whyte.

It seems that Fury's journey to the top of the boxing world has been filled with ups and downs when it comes to his fight purses. However, as he continues to dominate the heavyweight division, his earnings are set to skyrocket.
