Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury recently took to Instagram to share a shocking image of his blood-soaked headguard following a spar session that resulted in a fight-postponing cut. The Gypsy King was forced to push back his highly-anticipated undisputed title fight with Oleksandr Usyk after sustaining a horror gash above his right eye.
Sparring Incident Causes Fight Postponement
The biggest fight in the heavyweight division in the last 25 years was put on hold due to a devastating cut Fury suffered during sparring. The injury was caused by an accidental elbow from his sparring partner, Agron Smakici, and re-opened scar tissue from a previous cut Fury had against Otto Wallin in 2019. The incident was captured on video and quickly circulated after the fight's postponement.
Blood-Soaked Gear
Fury shared a photo on Instagram revealing the aftermath of the sparring session. In the image, blood can be seen on the right side of his headguard and partially smeared on both of his white gloves.
New Fight Date Confirmed
Fortunately, a new date for the undisputed heavyweight title fight has been confirmed. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, aged 35 and 37 respectively, will now face off in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 18. The new fight date was made possible thanks to the swift actions of Saudi boxing kingpin Turki Alalshikh.

Fury's Response to the Postponement
Fury expressed his disappointment at the postponement but remained optimistic. He stated, "This is not a blessing in disguise, but I take God's will as it comes. I was 100 per cent confident I was going to knock Usyk out. I was 100 per cent ready. Why would I not want to fight for the biggest payday of my life?" He also thanked Turki Alalshikh for securing the new date quickly.
Financial Implications
Both Fury and Usyk will face financial consequences if they withdraw from the rescheduled fight. They will be required to pay £8 million if they choose not to participate, as confirmed by Turki Alalshikh.
