The highly anticipated crossover clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou was a major disappointment in terms of pay-per-view (PPV) numbers, according to an insider.

The boxing and MMA champions squared off in Saudi Arabia in a showdown that was broadcasted on PPV around the world. However, despite the hype surrounding the event, it fell short of expectations.

Tyson Fury beat Francis Ngannou on points

In the ten-round encounter, Fury, 35, faced some adversity as he was dropped and stunned by Ngannou, 37. Nevertheless, Fury controversially emerged as the winner on points.

Professional wrestling and MMA reporter Dave Meltzer, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealed that the PPV numbers for the event were abysmal. Meltzer stated, "I will have the exact numbers tomorrow, but they were terrible. Way below an AEW (All Elite Wrestling) PPV. Possibly 10k for TV orders. I will have the streaming tomorrow. It was nothing close to Canelo or Diaz-Paul buys."

Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez's PPV success

To put the disappointing numbers into perspective, Jake Paul, 26, boasted about selling over 800,000 PPVs for his fight against Tommy Fury, 24. Furthermore, his victory over Nate Diaz, 38, in August reportedly garnered around 450,000 PPV buys.

Canelo Alvarez, 33, who recently defeated Jermell Charlo, 33, in September, is also no stranger to PPV success. It is estimated that his last bout generated up to 700,000 PPV buys.
