Late Change in Judging Panel
Tyson Fury's highly anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk has encountered a last-minute twist, according to reports. The alteration, however, does not involve any new fighters being brought in hastily, but rather a shift in the judging panel for the upcoming bout.
Key Details
The initial lineup of judges for the historic clash included Gerardo Martinez from Puerto Rico, Patrick Morley from Chicago, and Fernando Barbosa from Miami. However, boxing journalist Keith Idec revealed that Barbosa had fallen ill and was unable to travel to Riyadh for the event. In his place, Steve Weisfeld from New Jersey is reported to have stepped in to assume the judging duties.
Weisfeld's Background
Steve Weisfeld previously served as a judge for Usyk's previous match against Anthony Joshua in 2021, where he scored Usyk a 116-112 victor. Additionally, he scored in favor of Tyson Fury over Deontay Wilder in their second and third encounters in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Despite his involvement in those fights, Fury's knockout victories rendered his scoring unnecessary.
