TYSON FURY was absolutely 'berserk’ when Anthony Joshua demanded more money to enable him to face Oleksandr Uzyk.
Last week, just hours before Fury's WBC showdown with Dillian Whyte, a last-ditch attempt to make a heavyweight title fight between Fury & the undefeated Usyk failed.
Anthony Joshua accepted a PS15million offer from Oleksandr Usyk to withdraw from his rematch
Frank Warren, the promoter of the Saudi showdown, claimed that AJ demanded an additional 'PS3.7million to withdraw from his rematch against Usyk. This demand sent The Gypsy Kings up the wall.
Warren stated that Tyson is a large man and can speak for himself in an interview with iFL TV. He doesn't need me telling him.
"But that's exactly what it was. I received a call from him and he was going crazy saying, "No, forget it!" '"
Warren asserts that Joshua's alleged request for more dosh was "the straw that broke the camel’s back".
He stated that: "What stopped this fight from happening? This deal from happening?" AJ entered and demanded another $5m.
Tyson replied, "Enough is enough. I don’t want anything to be heard, and I don’t want any more talk about it.
"And that's all the truth, and that's exactly what happened.
"Everybody worked hard for it, but when he demanded that extra money, it was the straw that broke the camel’s back."
Eddie Hearn, an AJ promoter, claimed that the desert dust-up between Fury & Usyk was a failure because Usyk wanted a warm up fight before facing the slick Southpaw.
Warren, Queensberry Promotions chief, has rejected his Matchroom rival's claim and said: "It’s all irrelevant and it doesn’t matter what Eddie Hearn says.
"Eddie Hearn is a prolific speaker and part of the reason these statements don't make it past the line.
"A year ago, when we tried to put together Joshua and Tyson's fight, every week he said, 'It’s done, contracts are being issued', despite the fact that we all signed an agreement to not make any statements until it was over.
SunSport has confirmed that Fury's Battle of Britain will take place April 23 with Whyte, his former sparring partner. The Principality Stadium in Cardiff is also a potential venue for the bout.
Joshua's high-stakes rematch against Usyk is in the planning stages for May.
