Tyson Fury's Trilogy with Deontay Wilder "Changed" Him, Says Coach

Fury's Trilogy Takes a Toll

Deontay Wilder's coach, Malik Scott, has claimed that Tyson Fury's trilogy series with Wilder has had a "damaging" effect on him. The two heavyweights first faced off in 2018, resulting in a draw despite Fury being dropped twice. They had a rematch in 2020, with Fury winning by knockout in the seventh round. Their October 2021 trilogy was the most intense yet, with Fury ultimately emerging as the victor. However, after Fury's recent fight with Francis Ngannou, where he was floored and won controversially on points, Scott believes that the trilogy has taken its toll on Fury.

The Impact of Three Fights with Wilder

Scott emphasized the significance of the three fights Fury had with Wilder, stating that they have undoubtedly changed him. He pointed out that these were not short fights, with Fury having gone over 24 rounds with Wilder, who is known for his devastating punching power. While people may highlight the times Fury was knocked down, Scott reminded everyone of the punishment Fury took throughout the fights, absorbing heavy shots and still coming back. According to Scott, these shots are just as damaging.

Fury's Next Challenge: Oleksandr Usyk

Now, at 35 years old, Fury is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career against Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed crown. The highly anticipated four-belt unification bout was initially scheduled for December 23, but due to Fury's grueling fight with Ngannou, it has been postponed until February. Scott, however, believes that Fury is on the decline and has accumulated a significant amount of wear and tear on his body, not only from the Wilder fights but also from previous bouts early in his career. Despite his skills and high-quality sparring, Fury's age may be catching up with him, according to Scott.
