TYSON FURY'S name is back in the headlines with Daniel Kinahan - but for the wrong reasons.
According to reports, the Gypsy King was set to face AJ on August 20, 2021. However, Deontay Wilder won his case to rematch Fury after he lost to Fury in the previous year.
Fury also praised Kinahan's ability to get the paperwork done in what was to be the most important British boxing match ever.
Who is he? And what was his role in the great fight that never took place?
Who is Daniel Kinahan
Kinahan, a controversial figure from Ireland and the eldest child of Christy "Dapper Don", Kinahan, is a controversial figure.
He was instrumental in co-founding MGM, a company that promotes boxing.
Kinahan formed the company in 2017 with Matthew Macklin. He is no longer involved in the operation.
MTK Global also has Fury, Carl Frampton and Paddy Barnes, as well as MMA star Darren Till.
MTK has nine locations around the globe, including London, Marbella Dubai, Johannesburg and Manchester.
Barnes, the Irish Olympic boxing champion, has said previously: "MGM is Matthew Macklin." He is the founder and my manager.
"I have nothing to do any criminality. Matthew isn't a criminal. I am not a criminal.
"So, if anyone would like to talk about criminality and Christy Kinahan and Daniel, they should ask them directly.
"If he wishes to sit in mine corner, he may."
MTK and Top Rank were signed to a lucrative deal with ESPN in March 2019. This has seen Fury's star grow in America since that first meeting with Deontay wilder.
According to Ben Davison (fury's former trainer), Kinahan was a major factor in Fury getting back in the ring following his three-year absence.
Davison said that Tyson struggled to trust people before his 2018 return.
"There were constant threats of legal cases being thrown at him. A thousand hurdles in front of him before contemplating any kind of comeback. Daniel cleared them away before I arrived on the scene.
"Daniel gave Tyson the foundations to start over, a positive outlook, and a path back to the top. It was hugely important for Tyson."
Dubai is where the Irishman currently lives.
He is prohibited from entering the USA, and his name appears on target lists at the Criminal Assets Bureau and Drug Enforcement Agency.
In 2016, Kinahan was the victim of an assassination plot at a Dublin fight weigh in, where one man was killed while two others were hurt.
KHK Sports, a Bahrain-based promoter of fights, appointed Kinahan as their advisor in May 2020.
After a series of revelations, Kinahan, who was once a lucrative actor, was fired by June. He reportedly quit boxing.
KHK stated that Daniel Kinahan has been removed from its advisory role and that KHK Sports had confirmed this.
"KHK is well-respected and admired for its contributions to sports and is well-known for its integrity and deeply-rooted principles in the industry."
Kinahan was featured in a BBC ONE Panaroma documentary titled 'Boxing and the Mob,' which was broadcast on February 1, 2022.
What is the relationship between Kinahan and Tyson Fury?
Fury named Kinahan as a reference in his Instagram video, claiming that he helped get the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight over the line.
Fury stated, "I'm just trying to get off the phone with Daniel Kinahan."
"He just informed me that the largest fight in British boxing history had just been agreed.
"Big shoutout to Dan, he did it! Literally, it was over the line. Two fight deal. Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua next Year."
Frank Warren, Fury's promoter, says that Kinahan - who was appointed as an advisor' to two-time champ - handled negotiations for the super-fight at heavyweight due to an ’existing relationship’ with Eddie Hearn.
Warren's Queensberry Promotions released the following statement: Queensberry Promotions & MTK Global had seen today's comment in relation to a possible unification fight between Tyson Fury & Anthony Joshua.
"We are able to confirm that negotiations took place between Eddie Hearn, Tyson's advisor Daniel Kinahan.
"Both Queensberry, Top Rank, Tyson's exclusive promoters and MTK Global, Tyson's management team, agreed this was the best way forward because of the existing relationship between Eddie, Daniel, and MTK Global.
"As with all statements before, Queensberry Top Rank, MTK and MTK are committed working with all parties in order to win this fight.
"At this time, we are unable to confirm that any contracts have been signed by any of the parties or any details regarding dates, venues, and many other important terms."
Fury posed with the Kinahan in Spain 2017 in a photo, but there are no indications that Fury is involved in criminal wrongdoing.

Barry McGuigan, a former champion boxing world champ, has claimed that the alleged crime boss brought "an element de terror" to boxing.
According to reports, who is in charge of a criminal gang that specializes in drug and firearm trafficking around the globe?
Daniel, however, denied any claims that he was connected to a gang in a BBC documentary.
The wanted man stated that he was not part of any criminal gang or conspiracy and could not be more clear about the fundamental slur.
"I don't have convictions. None. It does not matter if you are in Ireland or anywhere else in the world.
