Nikhil, who began kickboxing two year ago, was participating in a K-1 Kickboxing Association of Karnataka state-level championship.
His distraught dad filed a police complaint against the organizers over his son's tragic death.
According to Times of India, cops visited Rapid Fitness Gym Jnanabharati on Friday.
According to a police source, the spot inspection would prove or disprove negligence charges against the organizers as claimed by Nikhil the father.
Cops believe Naveen Ravishankar, the event organizer, is still missing.
Vikram Nagaraj, Nikhil's grieving coach, described Nikhil as a "beautiful spirit" in an emotional tribute.
He stated, "With deep sadness, I bear the burden of breaking the horrible news that we all dreaded."
"My boy Nikhil decided today to hang his gloves.
"His beautiful soul was taken from us after a long battle, despite the best medical care.
"He will remain in our hearts and memories for all eternity. My loss has left me broken beyond words.
"Today, I lost my son. We ask the Almighty for strength and courage to endure the unimaginable. My deepest condolences."
Nikhil, who was viewed as the next big thing for MMA in India, has just participated in the 6th Open MMA Championship (Karnataka) after he had previously represented India in the 5th MMA India Nationals (Madhya Pradesh).
This comes just two days after Lucas Gabriel Peres (22 years old) died from a head injury sustained during a fight in Brazil.
Mateus Fernandes (22), a talented Jiu Jitsu fighter, died from four heart attacks after being knocked out in MMA.
A further tragedy was that a kickboxer died after she was knocked out in a bout against a "much larger" opponent, according to her family.
26-year-old Saeideh Alettaha died from a head injury in the third round of her fight against Janie Morgan in Southampton (Hants), in 2019.
