After the crushing defeat, a crestfallen Poirier watches.

After failing to win the undisputed UFC Gold, Poirier was brave and open with the media. He was also overcome by emotion at times.

Poirier, crestfallen, said that he was not unfamiliar with his position.

"Nobody wants lose, but I just get used to learning. It was the fight game.

"I try not to cry at another press conference, and I'm trying to keep my hands from crying in front of you guys.

"But I'm going to continue doing what I do.

"Be a father, be a beacon for light, and never stop working."

Poirier says he doesn't regret his failure to win the undisputed UFC gold.

He stated, "Like I've said all week, nothing in the whole journey was in vain.

"All that I and my family have is because we fought.

These moments are the best way to learn about yourself and get a lot of education.

It just sucks man. I worked hard and sacrificed a lot to get myself to the point where I believed I would be the world champion.

"I knew that I would either come out here tonight to be the world champion or fail daringly.

Poirier's first round success wasn't enough for him to win undisputed UFC gold

"And sometimes, this is what happens."

Poirier will return to Louisiana to review his latest setback and discuss it with his family, before making a decision about whether to continue fighting.

He stated, "I can do whatever I set my mind to. I can fight for another title, and I can continue my streak.

"I can climb and claw my way back to where I want to go. It's all about me.

"That's the question that I must ask myself in the mirror.

"Do you want to do it again?" Are you willing to take that same road again?

Poirier is still undecided on his future.

"And that answer will be in the next couple of days, next few weeks.

"I need to let it go and see what the future holds."

"But if it's my heart and I want to do that, I'll fight for another world title."
