After a long battle with cancer, Carl Ikeme, former Wolves keeper, wins his first MMA fight.
After a long battle with cancer, Ikeme played more than 200 games for Wolves. He then retired in 2018, after having completed a year of treatment.

Four years later, the 36-year old is back in sporting competition. But it's something quite different to the Beautiful Game.

Ikeme defeated fellow Brit Fuad Ahmad in the Raw Grappling World Championship held at the IndigoO2 Arena, London.

The promotion's YouTube page featured the action.

It is loosely based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with Ikeme using his skills in ground fighting and submissions.

The bout was won by the ex-keeper 4-0.

Ikeme had 274 appearances in domestic competitions. More than 200 of these were for Wolves, which he joined at the age of 14.

The stopper won two promotions and ten international caps for Nigeria.

Ikeme spoke out about his decision to quit football. He said that he had spoken to the doctor and suggested that I retire because of the effects it has had on my body.
