Bellator 270 results: Peter Queally in Dublin suffers from agony as Patricky Pitbull is elected new lightweight champion

PETER QUALLY'S attempt to be the first ever Bellator Irish champion was a failure. He lost in Dublin to Patricky Pitbull.

Patricky's younger brother Patricio confirmed that he would be vacating his Bellator lightweight title because he didn't want to hinder his sister's ambitions.

After losing the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix championship, the former champion made his decision.

John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor's coach, convinced both men to agree to the highly anticipated rematch for the vacant belt.

The first clash between them last year was won by fourth-ranked Queally via second round stoppage. Queally had suffered a bad cut to the forehead of the Brazilian.

This made it the star's third consecutive stoppage victory. Patricky, No1 in the lightweight division, has also claimed the most knockouts. This gave the clash all the ingredients to be explosive.

There was much debate about whether Patricky should have been in the title photo in the first instance. But that was settled in front the Dublin crowd supporting his 'Showstopper opponent before his adoring public.

It was a tense first round, with Queally stopping Patricky with some leg kicks. However, the fans knew that their man was the one who won.

At the beginning of the second, the crowd was fuming when Queally accidentally poked their eye. This caused a long stoppage while doctors examined the Brazilian's eye.

The 3Arena was stunned when their boy was stopped.

Pitbull's vicious counter found Queally's chin, sending him to his knees. He then got up and ate another right-left combination that sent him stumbling into his cage.

He was able to get up and fight again, but he received more punches that sent him back to the cage. Patricky started teeing off and the ref had to intervene to stop it.
