LERONE MURPHY won the greatest victory in his mixed martial arts career by KOing Makwan Amirkhani at UFC 265.
Amirkhani and the Manchester Miracle fought in the prelim portion of UFC's latest card, in Abu Dhabi.
After being completely dominated in the grappling department during the first round Murphy pulled off a spectacular counter knee KO just seconds after the restart.
Manchester Top Team's standout Amirkhani, who attempted a double-leg with a right knee, perfectly timed his opponent's attempt with a right leg.
Finland's Amirkhani fell in a heap, and Murphy made two more academic strikes. Then Marc Goddard stopped proceedings.
After stopping Mr Finland, Murphy was delighted and he was quick to take in the greatest victory of his young career.
Murphy stated that he knew right away that the KO was over when he was asked about it in a post-fight interview.
"I saw his head drop back and I dropped down to end the fight."
"But, come on man, we are here. We are coming for the top-15, which is 50Gs. 50Gs 50Gs!
"Dana White send the pea. We are ready."
Murphy said that Amirkhani's dominance during the first round was due to Murphy feeling 'off in the back'.
He stated that he felt "a bit off" in his back and it took him a little longer to warm up.
"But once my body was warm, it was dangerous.
"My corner gave good advice. "Keep him southpaw. He's struggling with this."
"And after that first left-hand, I saw him, dip, and I knew the knee would be there."
Murphy is now just a touch away from the top-15 in the featherweight division after his defeat of Amirkhani.
He'd love to challenge the elite 145lb division.
He stated, "Everybody is a killer in my division and every match is a big one."
"Just give one of them to me and we'll go."
