The Disappointed Challenger
Colby Covington has not been impressed with Leon Edwards' reign as welterweight champion. Edwards claimed the title with a stunning knockout victory over Kamaru Usman last August, but Covington believes he has been a lackluster champion.
Not Impressed
Covington spoke exclusively to SunSport and stated, "No, nothing's impressed me [about him]. He's been a boring champion. The guy doesn't want to fight. He likes to sit out a year and pick and call the shots like he calls the shots around."
Don't Cross the Boss
Covington believes Edwards made a mistake by trying to call the shots and cross the boss. He said, "This is the biggest and best fight the company can do. This is a publicly traded multi-billion-dollar company. Do you think they're just gonna let this nobody who doesn't sell pay-per-views call the shots? No."
Trump in Covington's Corner
Covington will have the support of former President Donald Trump during his fight for the welterweight title. He claims that if Edwards was truly popular, the Royal Family would be in attendance. Covington said, "If he was the A-side, he would be bringing out the Royal Family, he'd be bringing out Mary f***ing Poppins, he'd be bringing out Paddington Bear."

Change of Plans
The highly anticipated clash between Edwards and Covington was initially planned to take place in the UK but fell through. Covington expressed his frustration, stating, "He denied the UK fans this homecoming fight. How could you turn down a fight in your UK backyard, that's embarrassing. I feel so bad."
Future Plans
Covington is already looking ahead to his future as champion. He plans to defend the title in the UK next year, as he believes the fans there are the most electrifying in the sport's history. Covington stated, "So I'm gonna do the UK fans a favor and I'm gonna come and defend this title in the UK after I beat Leon next weekend."
