McGregor still took home over EUR100 MILLION despite his loss.

In a massive crossover event, the Dubliner was defeated by 'Money'. This was said to have netted the UFC's ace over EUR100 MILLION.

However, their rematch could see them both surpass EUR450 MILLION.

McGregor hasn't fought since breaking his leg in July and, despite speculation putting him against Jorge Masvidal it seems likely that he will choose the ring over the octagon.

Their first fight was an extraordinary, historic occasion that transcended the ropes.

McGregor vs Mayweather was teased long before 2017.

McGregor said in November 2016 that he would "get Mayweather outta bed" before his fight with Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title.

Conor had already won the Jose Aldo featherweight title and had fought Nate Diaz twice, losing one and winning the second.

He would become history when he defeated Alvarez to become the first ever two-weight simultaneous champion, before stepping out of MMA entirely.

He didn't return to the Octagon until 2020 when he was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov, then-lightweight champion.

In the meantime, he tried his hand at boxing. The Irish Sun revealed that talks were underway to fight Mayweather in December 2016.

We revealed in February that the billion-dollar bout had been agreed upon, with Mayweather suggesting that it might take place in June.

McGregor, however, claimed that McGregor would fight in September 2017.

It was already proving divisive even before its announcement, with Eddie Hearn calling the event the 'biggest ever boxing match in history'

After six months of speculation, preambles, and call outs, the fight was finally announced in June 2017. Fans were split in the aftermath.

McGregor would still make a staggering EUR88 MILLION from his fight in Las Vegas on August 26th.

MAC TALK

The build-up and pageantry continued for the next four-months, with press conferences hosting pro-wrestling promos from both.

In July 2017, Los Angeles hosted the first face-off of a worldwide tour of face-offs.

Conor McGregor warned that he would 'bounce Mayweather off the canvas' before 20,000 of his expectant fans.

McGregor was dressed in a custom-made suit with pin stripes that spell out "f*** you" at the press conference.

McGregor's remark, "Dance for Me, Boy" was the subject of controversy at that press conference.

At one point, he even threw a flag of Ireland at his opponent

He tried to defend himself during the New York leg when he said, "I want to address some."

"Some media seem to think that I have something against black people."

"But I'm half-black. "I'm black from my belly button down."

On the other hand, Mayweather was accused by homophobia at an X-rated London press conference. The verbal intensity rose to 11.

Everyone and everyone made predictions. Manny Pacquiao predicted that McGregor would lose to McGregor, while Tyson Fury tip-toed 'The Notorious’ to KO ‘Money.

The fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas on August 26, 2017. Imelda May performed The National Anthem that night.

The actual fight lasted 10 rounds. The novice gave as much as he could against his legendary opponent.

However, Mayweather's indomitable streak of undefeated wins was extended to 50-0.

There have been whispers over the years that a rematch might be possible.

After five years of fighting, it may be possible to create an unlikely sequel.
