McGregor, the UFC's superstar, was one of the many interested observers. He was also in talks to box the Filipino after he lost his fight with Dustin Poirier in January.

The Notorious claimed that he owes a lot of money from the fight. He tweeted: "I'm due commission on that manny fight and it's my right to get it."

As the pride of the Philippines, McGregor is considering quitting his job and a showdown with Pacquiao is unlikely.

He said in the press conference after the fight that Manny Pacquiao may not be fighting again in the ring.

"I don't know. However, for how many decades, I have been so satisfied with my boxing achievements.

"I also contribute a record to boxing and make boxing the best. I bring honor to my country, the Filipino people.

"I am proud to be Filipino and grateful to all my fans around the globe."

On Sunday, Pacquiao (42 years old) wrote an emotional thank-you message to his followers on Instagram. He wrote: "I want God to give me the strength to fight."

"I want to thank my family for being there beside me. Ugas and his entire team deserve my congratulations.

"I wished him all the best, even though I had hoped for a different outcome.

"Thank you to all the people who watched the show around the globe.

"I am sorry that I couldn't give you a win but I tried my best.

"From the bottom my heart, thank you! God bless you all! Mabuhay."

McGregor is still recovering from the fractured leg he sustained in his UFC 264 Trilogy fight with Poirier last October.
