Conor McGregor imitated Tyson Fury's mouthguard move against Dustin Poirier to plot to call out UFC star Charles Oliveira

CONOR MCGREGOR wore a Brazil-coloured mouthpiece last month during his fight with Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight. This was apparently to attract Charles Oliveira, the lightweight champion.

If he had won the Sin City series decider, The Notorious would have been eligible for a third chance at the 155lb weight strap. He suffered a terrible leg injury at the end the first round.

The Irishman looked like he was ready to run for Do Bronx, as he had seen his gumshield at the T-Mobile Arena.

MMA fans quickly commented on the mouthguard gear with one saying, "I'm depressed."

Another one said, "And it backfired."

Another said, "That'd make Conor a terrible matchup." Charles would grab Conor's legs.

Conor only can fight at 155 if he is Nate Trilogy or Tony Ferguson. He is finished at the [top] level."

One commented: "Really, I hope he fights again soon. He says he wants it, but I don't know what he will do with me.

"What I do not know is that McGregor fight nights hit differently."

McGregor's choice in mouthguard was inspired by Tyson Fury who wore a Nigerian-coloured gumshield last February during his rematch against Deontay Wilder.

To attract the attention of Anthony Joshua, the Gypsy King's rival, the Gypsy King donned a mouthguard. His parents are from Nigeria.

McGregor, 33 years old, had surgery for a fractured fibula and tibia on the same day he lost his rubber match against Poirier.

Although the cause of UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight champion is unknown, the poster boy for the promotion recently stated that he had suffered multiple stress fractures before he entered the fight.

In a six-minute Instagram video, he stated: "The leg has never been better."

"I was hurt going into the fight. People ask me when the leg was broken.

"At what point did it break?" Dana White asks. Ask the UFC. Dr. Davidson is the UFC's head doctor.

"They knew that I had stress fractures in the leg before I went into that cage.

"There was some debate about taking the thing out, because I was sparring with no shin pads and I would kick my knee a few times.

"So, I suffered multiple stress fractures above my ankle in the shin bone and then I still have problems with my ankle after all these years of fighting."

McGregor will continue to train as normal during his recovery, but McGregor will not be out of shape.

UFC president Dana White said to Pat McAfee that Conor was out for one year.

"The doctor stated that it would take nine months for him to start training again. We're considering it a year.

"I don't even think about it."
