Usman believes McGregor's days as a champion are over
McGregor has only fought one time at welterweight. Usman, however, is happy to allow him to skip the line of competitors in the division so that he can "grab the huge cheque" that comes with fighting the Irishman.
McGregor was mentioned by him during an appearance on the I AM Athlete podcast. He said that McGregor could call him out, but it doesn't mean he will fight me.
He's so big that he can choose where he wants to go and where he will call the shots. He is that big.
"Conor could say, "I'm going fight you tomorrow", and he's still going to sell one million purchases. That cheque would be mine.
"When I see fights, I look at their hearts. And for me, he's done. I don't know if the goal was to get the cash."
McGregor, 34 years old, has only fought seven fights in the Octagon in the past six years due to his multimillion-pound boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the pandemic.
Usman believes that the ex-two-division champion's wealth has put an end to his title ambitions.
According to the Nigerian Nightmare, "There is a story about him. He was broke."
"It seemed to me that it was about getting money, not being broke. That's what I get. He's not broke.
"But, how will you be champion? Because that's what drove your desire to become champion. You didn't want the financial burden. You're now not broke.
"He is not always done, but he has done as a champion."
Pound-for–pound king Usman is getting ready for a rematch against Brit Leon Edwards. Edwards will defend his title against Usman on Sunday morning at UFC 278 Salt Lake City.
McGregor is currently finishing his recovery from the severe broken leg sustained in his fight with Dustin Pourier in July.
Mystic Mac reflected on UFC 277 last month and wrote in a tweet voice note: "I am buzzing cuz i want to return."
"Good fights, good fight nights, good cards, and good pay-per view inspire millions all over the globe.
"Thank you so much for all the entertainment. I'll be seeing you soon."
