Daniel Cormier believes that the Irishman will have a difficult time recapturing his glory days
McGregor has sometimes looked like a shadow fighter of Eddie Alvarez, the 155lb champion at UFC 205 in Nov 2016.
Daniel Cormier, a former champion in two-division, believes that The Notorious will have a difficult time recapturing his glory days.
Monster Energy Athlete stated: "It's difficult to expect him back to where he used to be, it would prove very difficult."
"The sport is constantly evolving. The guys are better. The guys are more fit and ready to go.
"They now know what is in front of them.
Conor believed that no one had ever seen him. In 2014/2015, nobody had ever seen this type of striker.
"Now, like those guys are littered about weight classes, but they've gotten used coping with them.
"And I believe that's why it's caused by the problems that he has had. It's not something new."
McGregor, despite not winning a lightweight fight in six years is likely to face Justin Gaethje's winner in Charles Oliveira’s title defense in May.
Cormier said that this is not surprising, adding: "His rules differ from all others.
"He is always in contention, regardless of what happens in the fights. He's now lost. He's now lost three straight fights. He's now lost two or three fights in succession.
"But if he returns, and he puts in a great performance, then he'll be back in contention right away.

Conor McGregor still has to recover from the broken leg he sustained last July

.
The manager of the Irishman doesn't see a summer return.
"I believe that what we'll see are someone manageable. The Cowboy (Cerrone), fight was manageable.
"So someone with high names, but not necessarily the threat from a Dustin Poirier."
McGregor is currently recuperating from the terrible broken leg sustained in his fight with Poirier's Trilogy last July.
Although the Irishman has recovered faster than expected from his nasty break, his manager doesn't see a summer return to normal.
Paradigm Sports Senior Vice President Tim Simpson stated during an appearance on The MMA Hour that he doesn't need back. He is happy with who he was and the accomplishments he has made financially and athletically.
"After that injury it was like, "Now might be the right time." He wants to fight again, which I find baffling. It also says a lot about him.
"I don’t believe it will be in summer, but it will certainly be some stage this season.
"Maybe we wait to see when the lightweight title fight takes place and then go there.
"He will fight in this year's fight and it is a credit for him. He has no real reason to except the desire to, and that is impressive."
