McGregor is making progress in his rehabilitation and UFC president Dana White wants to make a comeback for The Notorious one this summer.

White stated to TMZ Sports that he is doing all the right things for his leg. "I hope he will be able to come back this summer," White said.

McGregor, who had defeated Poirier in 2014, was knocked to the ground by the American in their January 2021 match.

The former double-champion was left in agony after the devastating injury to his spine.

McGregor revealed that he would return to sparring by April. This will allow him to start training camp again.

It remains to be seen who he will face on his eagerly awaited return.

McGregor's 2016 loss to Nate Diaz was a setback. However, McGregor won the rematch five years later. McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract.

He has also been in talks to fight Poirier (33), which could be his last fight in the UFC, and could end McGregor's trilogy.

Charles Oliveira (32), was just crowned UFC lightweight champion.

Soon after, McGregor and Oliveira started calling one another out, fueling rumors of a title fight.

This is despite McGregor's inability to win a lightweight fight since 2016, and Justin Gaethje (33), currently ranking as the No1 contender.

Beneil Dariush (32), a fellow UFC lightweight, said that McGregor will get an immediate shot at his belt.

Dariush stated to The Schmo that he still believes it could happen.

"We were really concerned. "We were actually concerned. We will be pushed back to 2023.

"So, I pray it doesn't happen. If Justin wins or Charles wins, they might be like, "I deserve a money fight."

"We'll see. "I hope not."
