A Coach's Perspective
Phil Sutcliffe, Conor McGregor's first coach at Crumlin amateur boxing club, has been with the UFC legend for over two decades. Sutcliffe, a double Olympian, has worked with numerous amateur champions, but it was McGregor who truly made his mark at the Dublin gym.
A Chance Encounter
As a schoolboy, McGregor stumbled into Crumlin BC while playing for a local football team. He was immediately drawn to the world of combat and began his fighting journey after taking off his muddy boots and filling out a membership form with his parents.
A Natural Talent
According to Sutcliffe, McGregor displayed incredible boxing ability from an early age. Despite later transitioning to mixed martial arts, McGregor's talent in the boxing ring was evident. Sutcliffe believes McGregor's ability to read and avoid shots set him apart.
A Reunion and a Change of Heart
After pursuing MMA and achieving massive success, McGregor returned to his roots for a crossover boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in 2017. The defeat sparked a reunion with Sutcliffe, who then became part of McGregor's MMA camp. Sutcliffe's involvement in MMA changed his perception of the sport, realizing the amount of work and dedication required.

Passing on the Skills
McGregor is already passing on his knowledge to his six-year-old son, Conor Jr. Sutcliffe sees himself in McGregor's coaching style and is impressed by Conor Jr's skills. The youngster is described as an athlete with natural abilities, including flexibility, strength, and fearlessness.
The Comeback
Currently recovering from a leg injury, McGregor is training for his UFC comeback. He is expected to face American fighter Michael Chandler in the summer. Sutcliffe believes McGregor is as hungry and driven as ever, with the determination to win and prove himself in the octagon once again.
It seems like the fighting legacy may continue with Conor Jr following in his father's footsteps. Only time will tell if he will reach the same level of success as his famous dad.
