Conor McGregor and his team are determined to make his long-awaited return.
Conor McGregor and his manager, Audie Attar, are not giving up on the idea of headlining UFC 300. Although it had been confirmed that McGregor's comeback fight against Michael Chandler would not happen this year, there was hope that it would top the bill of the historic UFC 300 card. However, UFC president Dana White recently cast doubt on that possibility. Nevertheless, McGregor and Attar are pushing for his eagerly-anticipated comeback fight to headline the event on April 13.
Manager Audie Attar is working hard to make it happen.
Audie Attar, the chief of Paradigm Sports, is determined to ensure McGregor's fight is the main event of UFC 300. He told MMA Junkie, "If it was up to him, he'd be fighting Saturday. So ultimately we're just trying to make sure we're doing everything right and following all the standard operating procedures to get him back in the octagon as soon as possible. UFC 300 would be amazing, and obviously we're pushing as hard as we can to make that happen. Ultimately, it's going to be an exciting 2024 for his return."
Michael Chandler is the likely opponent.
Although doubts have grown about Michael Chandler being the one to welcome McGregor back to the octagon, Attar believes he is the likeliest opponent. He said, "They just did The Ultimate Fighter together, and I think the fans want to see that fight, but there are other opponents as well. At the end of the day, the UFC is still keen on Michael Chandler and unless something changes there, I certainly think that's who's going to be."
McGregor is eager to return after a long absence.
Conor McGregor, a former two-division champion, has not fought since his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier two-and-a-half years ago, where he broke his left leg. Despite a painstaking rehab process, McGregor is determined to get back to fighting form. He recently pleaded with the UFC to give him a date for his return, stating, "I've been kept from my living for almost three years now. Understand that. I came through what I came through. I'm sitting on an injury and a loss. This is my job. It's beyond frustrating. ... I just want the date. Give me the date, please. That's it."
