Dana White, UFC president, has announced that fighters on the roster will not be required to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Recently, the National Football League mandated that all players be vaccinated to participate in the upcoming season. It starts September 9.
UFC President Dana White insists that fighters will not be forced to take the Covid-19 jab.
White insists that the UFC will not follow the NFL's lead and that the final decision on getting vaccinated lies with the fighters.
TSN spoke with the veteran promoter, saying: "I would never tell anyone what to do about their body."
"If you decide to get vaccinated, it's your choice. It's up to you.
"You won't ever hear me say that I'm going force people to get vaccinated. Never gonna happen.
"I believe a lot people are doing this, they're telling New York City residents that you can't get into restaurants or gyms unless you have proof of your vaccination and can show it.
"Some people get fired if they aren't vaccinated.
"That won't happen here [in UFC]. Get vaccinated if you wish to be vaccinated. You can choose to get vaccinated or not.
White may not see vaccines as a pressing issue right now, but they will soon be when the promotion returns to Madison Square Garden in November.
Recently, Governor Bill de Blasio announced that members of the public will need to present proof of vaccination to gain entry to gyms, restaurants, and other indoor activities. This includes large groups.
White acknowledges that the mandate could lead to the removal of their return to MSG.
He stated, "I told you guys one million times, that I was going to run any normal event.
"I stated that I would be the first, and I would perform the indoor sold-out arena without social distancing or masks.
'We did it. It was done in Florida. It was done in Texas. It was done in Arizona. It was in Vegas. This weekend, we'll be selling out in Texas.
"I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know what’s going to happen. This stuff keeps on playing. A year and a quarter ago, I was not ready.
"I'm ready to do anything. I don’t care about what happens or how it goes. I don’t care how the different states run their affairs. I'm ready for anything. I have plans.
He said, "If we can do it in New York." We were supposed to travel to England, but that didn't happen.
"We are moving it to Vegas, and the plan is New York. But, if New York fails, I'll move it wherever it will."
