Dana White snubbed Conor McGregor as Jon Jones was named UFC chief GOAT

DANA WHITE once stated that Jon Jones is the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

Conor McGregor, the Brazilian middleweight icon Anderson Silva, insisted that he was No2 on the list. This triggered a row about the title.

This was met with strong opposition, not least by Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who have beaten the Irishman.

Jones stated previously that he would "let the fans make their case for him" - before reminding his opponents that he has a 14-0 record and has won the most title fights in franchise history.

White, chief of UFC, says that the 35-year old is unrivalled having set many records and faced additional difficulties.

In 2020, he told ESPN: "There's no doubt Jon Jones is our GOAT.

"If you take a look at the man's accomplishments and what he was doing during those times, it is easy to see what he has done.

It's not as if the man was doing good to himself. The Jon Jones story is even more amazing because you can imagine what he could've accomplished if he had done the right thing all along.

"Imagine what he might have been. He's never lost an argument, I'm telling you that.

"People claim he was beat, but the three other people who matter most said that he wasn't.

"You can be mad at our judging. I know I do. But the three people sitting ringside all say that Jon Jones has never lost any fight."

Jones' only negative is Matt Hamill's 2009 disqualification, which White has always disputed.

His career as light-heavyweight champion has been marred by doping violations and legal issues.

Many fans believe that Silva and Georges St-Pierre, the UFC's pound-for-pound champions, are the best fighters they can challenge.

GSP, a Canadian Hall of Famer, won titles in two divisions like McGregor and retired with a 26-2 record. He had won every fight during his last decade of professional fighting.

Silva has seen a decline in his ability, but he continues to fight as one of the most respected veterans in MMA.

The longest UFC record is still the 16-fight win streak of the middleweight at his peak.
